FARM RETAIL MANAGER

Full-time, Year-round

We are looking for an enthusiastic, sales-driven, and service-minded person to lead our farm retail operations. This position is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic about working with a team to devise strategies to achieve sales goals, and who has a deep desire to build meaningful connections within their community.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Farm Retail Manager is responsible for identifying and maximizing retail sales opportunities, working directly with all other department managers, while maintaining the strong values and integrity that define our organization. This person will oversee farmstand retail operations and the Hello Café on a daily basis, with support from the Farmstand and Cafe Leads. The Farm Retail Manager manages sales through local farmers’ markets, wholesale markets, and our new order and delivery program. They will also provide guidance on marketing efforts in order to promote both sales and our mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Retail Management & Planning
Provide leadership to and manage the day-to-day operations of the farmstand and café with support from the Farmstand & Café Leads
Coordinate and collaborate with the Vegetable, Annuals & Perennials, and Kitchen Managers to develop and implement comprehensive plans for retail sales
Develop and retain a well-trained staff that is focused on superior customer relations and educating our community about our produce and products, as well as the overall mission of the farm
Manage the point of sale system for the farmstand, café, and farmers’ markets
Manage order fulfillment for our online order and delivery system
With support from the Farmstand and Café Leads, oversee the development of farmstand displays, merchandising, and point of purchase signage in order to increase farmstand sales
Coordinate staffing, stocking, and merchandising for local farmers’ markets with the Market Lead
Manage the farmstand side of CSA operations, with support from the Outreach and Engagement Coordinator (OEC)
Work with administrative staff and department managers to streamline communications between the farmstand and the rest of the farm

Sales & Budgeting
Complete annual budget projections for sales; regularly monitor and adjust with guidance from the Executive Director
As an active member of the management team, strategize and plan for future sales growth
Work with the Vegetable Production Manager to expand our local wholesale market through communication with restaurants and other local establishments

Other Organizational Responsibilities
Strive to further the mission of CCFEC by building community and striving to improve the quality of customers’ experiences
Support education initiatives and programs as appropriate (festivals, special events)

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills or Experience
2-3 years in a leadership role in a retail environment, ideally in a food retail or farm setting
Proven experience training and motivating staff
Experience managing a point of sale system
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven experience engaging customers in a successful retail sales environment
Detail oriented; comfortable working with numbers, metrics, and spreadsheets
Self-directed and highly motivated
Ability to work well as a team with a diverse set of co-workers

Desired Skills or Experience
At least 3 years of sales management experience, with demonstrated success
Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in organic food sales
Experience managing and optimizing online ordering systems
A strong sense of aesthetics and the ability to create visually appealing retail displays
Knowledge of and enthusiasm about organic and regenerative agriculture is a plus

COMPENSATION
The Farm Retail Manager is a full time year-round position, with flexible hours especially during the off-season. The position is hourly with benefits including health insurance (100% of the group premium is employer paid), paid time off, fresh produce, and a 20% discount in our farmstand and café. Pay starts at $23 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Head Over Fields is a small, certified organic mixed vegetable farm located in the foothills of Mount Philo in Charlotte, Vermont. We are entering our 3rd growing season, cultivating 3+ acres of vegetables, herbs and flowers with plans to expand. In 2022, we added two 30x96’ high tunnels, a 30x50’ propagation greenhouse and a 65 hp tractor to our team! We have a robust roadside farm stand on busy Rt. 7 to showcase our produce alongside other Vermont-made provisions. Additionally, we attend the Shelburne Farmers Market on Saturdays and distribute wholesale to local restaurants.

We are looking for an experienced individual to manage the roadside farm stand. This is a seasonal, full-time position (40-50 hours/week) from April- December 2023. This person will report directly to the Owner/Farm Manger. The ideal candidate would have the following experience and skills:

-Knowledge of and commitment to Vermont agriculture and artisanal Vermont products
-Familiarity with seasonal produce
-Purchasing
-Working with a wide range of vendors and distributors
-Merchandising, including creation of signage, building displays and marketing materials
