Black Dirt Farm’s Compost Operations Manager role is open and we’re looking for someone who has fire in the belly to learn this craft. Black Dirt Farm is an agroecological farm in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, modeled after the carbon cycle. We operate five dovetailed enterprises--food scrap collection, laying hens (foraged on compost), compost, worm castings, and crops. The composting and vermicomposting operations include aerated static pile, windrow, flow through vermiculture, poultry foraging, and compost heat recovery.
This role is ideal for someone who has some experience with composting and operating equipment, but is also eager to deepen their operational knowledge and experience, though we are more interested in the right person than the right experience. BDF thrives on, and celebrates, diversity and difference in all forms, and yet we do not tolerate marginalizing or toxic behavior. If you’re keen to build thriving community and local food systems, make great compost and worm castings to nourish soils, and gain experience in multiple aspects of composting, check out the job description on our website for more about the role. We are a learning culture and are eager to build one another’s capacity and share knowledge and experience. The role is open immediately and we are eager to fill it fast. It is a full-time, year-round role with fair wages and a modest benefits package. We are a ‘family-first’ farm and honor everyone here beyond the value of their labor.
