Beginner's Guide to Dying with Plants with Lucy Basa

This three hour workshop will be a quick but thorough introduction to the basics of natural dyeing. We will discuss the differences between natural & plant-based dyes and their commercial counterparts, resource consciousness in the dyeing process, fabric prep and mordants, and techniques and possibilities for natural color on cellulose (plant-based) fabrics. We will learn about the characteristics and color palettes of a few easy-to-grow dye plants, and participants will leave with some garden-dyed textiles.

Cedar Circle Farm and Education Center has a unique opportunity for someone looking to lead sales on a beautiful organic farm in the Upper Valley of Vermont. We are a certified organic vegetable and berry farm with a farmstand and education center. We have retail greenhouses, a farm kitchen, a coffee shop, and a unique CSA program. Our organization has a deep commitment to developing regenerative agriculture practices for our annual vegetable and flower production farm and to educating consumers about the need to support farms who are committed to growing food in a manner that improves and nourishes the soil.

The Sales Manager works directly with all other department managers to identify and maximize our sales opportunities while maintaining the strong values and integrity that define our organization. The bulk of our sales are through our farmstand (open seasonally, May-October daily, then on weekends through the middle of December), which the person in this position manages on a daily basis, with the support of the Farmstand and Cafe Leads and seasonal sales staff. The Sales Manager also oversees the retail sales from our cafe, and farmers’ markets, coordinates and promotes CSA programs and wholesale accounts.

The Intervale Center seeks a Food Hub Operations Assistant who will work collaboratively with the Intervale Food Hub team to implement operations, increase efficiency and productivity, and grow the demand for our products and services. The Operations Assistant will help maintain the Intervale Food Hub facility, trucks and equipment, food safety standards and quality management programs, and customer order fulfillment. This position works primarily in the Intervale Food Hub’s facility fulfilling orders and delivering orders in the Burlington metropolitan area. An ideal candidate has operations experience, preferably on a farm, restaurant, processing facility or other food-related business, knowledge of food quality standards, strong organization, communication, and time management skills, and excellent attention to detail as well as a positive attitude, patience, creativity, and a great sense of humor!
