Feeding Those Who Feed Us - Dairy Farms in Franklin County

On Wednesday, June 17, 2020, the NOFA-VT mobile pizza oven trekked to Fairfield to bake pizzas—as a way of showing gratitude—for the farm crews from four organic dairy farms: Stony Pond Farm, Bittersweet Valley Farm, Maple Valley Jerseys and Green Wind Farm. The day was hot and beautiful, the cows were meandering happily in the fields, and the crews were delighted to take a break from the long day of haying to enjoy some freshly baked pizza.

Stony Pond Farm hosted the event. Owned and operated by Melanie and Tyler Webb, the farm cares for a herd of mostly hardy Jersey cows, rotationally grazed on nutrient-rich, certified organic pasture. The farm's milk repeatedly earns awards for superior quality.  All four of the farms demonstrate excellent land stewardship by practicing pasture-based dairying, attending to the health of their soils, and adhering to the origin of livestock rule.
