Burlington, Vermont — Teams of farmers from all over Vermont will convene from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 6th at the Intervale Community Farm in Burlington to compete in a wide range of events designed to test the farmers’ field skills and teamwork. For the hard-working folks who grow our food, this event is a chance to take a mid-season break and enjoy some good food and refreshments along with some friendly competition.

“Farmers work hard so they should play hard too!” said event organizer Livy Bulger, NOFA Vermont's Educational and Outreach Events Coordinator. “All farmers and farm workers are invited to assemble a team and sign up for this fun annual event. The competition is extremely fun, but also tests your farm’s skills & teamwork.”

Teams will show off their skills in events ranging from physical to cerebral to plain ridiculous, competing in a variety of events, such as these, which were played in years’ past: “Chicken Tractor Pull,” “Round Hay Bale Roll Race,” “Fencing Puzzle,” “Chuckin' Eggs,” and some truly tricky farm-related math problems.

Dinner from the NOFA-VT mobile pizza oven will be provided for all participating farmers. Anyone is invited to watch as a spectator and enjoy dinner by donation.

The Fifth Annual Farmer Olympics will take place at the Intervale Community Farm, located at 282 Intervale Road in Burlington, Vermont on August 6th. Teams are asked to arrive at 4:00 pm to check in and warm up. The Opening Ceremony begins at 4:30 and the competition events are from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, followed by pizza and the awarding of trophies.
