Owner of Four Girls Dairy, Peter Rainville, and UVM Extension will discuss optimizing forage quality and increasing home grown forages in diet. Four Girls Dairy is a 75 cow dairy with a robotic milker. Peter has been fine-tuning his operation over the years to create an efficient dairy operation with minimal additional labor. Peter has been focused on increasing the quality and quantity of homegrown forage being produced and fed on his farm. Working with UVM Extension they have been focused on forage improvement strategies in the field and the barn. Improved forage seedings, harvest management, and ration formulation will be discussed. We will also view the farms new robotic feed sweeper. We’ll be joined by dairy nutritionists Patrice Vincent and Kurt Cotanch, who will share tips and considerations for successfully feeding more homegrown forage.
