Downtown Winooski’s part-time (10 hours a week) Farmer’s Market Manager receives $20/hour and will oversee the onsite operation of the Winooski Farmers Market for the 2023 season. The Manager is responsible for providing good customer service to attendees, volunteers, and vendors; independently problem solves issues as they arise, and supervises volunteers. The Manager is required to keep detailed records and provide necessary paperwork to partner agencies including NOFA-Vermont.

Hours:

The position will work closely with the Director of Downtown Winooski as well as board members and other volunteers to plan and prepare for the 2023 season. To start, hours will range from 2-10 hours per week. During the Farmers Market season the position is scheduled for 10 hours per week. The Manager is required to perform 8 hours of “market time” every Sunday, from May 28, 2023 through October 15.

The Manager is responsible for providing good customer service to attendees, volunteers, and vendors; independently problem solves issues as they arise, and supervises volunteers. The Manager is required to keep detailed records and provide necessary paperwork to partner agencies including NOFA-Vermont.

Hours:

The position will work closely with the Director of Downtown Winooski as well as board members and other volunteers to plan and prepare for the 2023 season. To start, hours will range from 2-10 hours per week. During the Farmers Market season the position is scheduled for 10 hours per week. The Manager is required to perform 8 hours of “market time” every Sunday, from May 28 through October 15. The remaining 2 hours per week is designated for flexible “office time” that may be required for reporting, administrative duties, social media promotion and vendor coordination.

Responsibilities:

·         Oversee Sunday setup and breakdown of market

·         Ensure all state and county regulations are adhered to

·         Answer vendor and consumer questions

·         Problem solve issues and/or disputes

·         Maintain market grounds in a safe and clean manner

·         Coordinate, supervise and support volunteers

·         Organize nutritional education materials, recipes for seasonal and local foods

·         Operate the market’s Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) program for SNAP (the former food stamp program) and Debit Sales

·         Consistently communicate market policies, activities, and rules to vendors

·         Solicit & schedule entertainment for market days

·         Promote market weekly via Downtown Winooski’s social media platforms

·         Maintain a list of farmers and vendors, including their contact information and any licenses or permits each vendor possesses based on the products they are selling.

·         Submit monthly market performance reports to Downtown Winooski Executive Director

·         Conduct bookkeeping of market’s weekly income, expenses, and reimbursement coupons

·         Update Farmer's Market manual, resources, and best practices for future seasons

 

Qualifications:

·         Be at least 18 years of age or older

·         Must be able to lift 50 pounds,

·         Must possess computer skills in Word, Excel, e-mail, and social media (Facebook, Instagram)

·         People person with skills in diplomacy and dispute resolution skills

·         Excellent communication & organizational skills

·         Self-motivated

·         Passionate about the community and local agriculture

·         Mature and able to make good decisions

·         Ability to train, supervise, coordinate, and motivate volunteers

·         Some financial knowledge helpful: i.e. budgeting, accounting

·         Prior experience overseeing a farmers market a plus, but not required
