Farm Manager
Butterworks is seeking an organized and professional leader to manage all aspects of the farm. This is an excellent opportunity. Butterworks is a farm in transition that aims to grow, evolve and remain a Vermont Organic Dairy tradition. The ideal candidate will have a deep passion for organic agriculture and animal care. Position Details
Work with Harvest Lead to secure nutritious feed from high yield hay fields and pastures
Work with Herd Lead to ensure animal health and reproductive success
Plan and manage rotational grazing AND winter housing for optimal cow health and milk production
Be fully emersed in all aspects of harvest and animal care
Operate tractors and heavy equipment
Milk cows and provide medical attention
Keep records for Federal, State and Organic inspections
Lead a caring and passionate team
Ensure equipment is in good working condition and properly maintained
Strategize and build efficiencies to lower the cost of milk production
while maintaining Butterworks values for herd care and soil health
Track and order farm supplies
Onboard and train staff to ensure protocols are followed and the team is safe
Build and maintain relationships with other farms, vendors and customers
Occasional representation at marketing events, conferences and seminars
Work with ownership to strategize and meet key targets
Requirements
0-5 years of dairy experience – will train the right person
Genuine appreciation for animals and the land
Positive disposition
Exceptional references
Good work ethic
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
Able to focus and make decisions in stressful situations
Mornings, nights and weekends required
Able to lift 50 pounds
