Invasive Earthworms in our Gardens and Woodlands
Saturday, February 25, 2017 - 1:30pm
"Crazy Snake Worms', Amynthas agrestis, are rapidly spreading throughout VT and are negatively affecting our gardens and woodlands. The arrive in containers of plants, in mulch or compost, with a plant passed on by a friend, or from fishing bait. They rapidly eat the duff layer in forests and gardens, making it hard for seeds to germinate and for soil organisms and fungi to live. UVM Prof. Josef Gorres is researching these earthworms and will tell us about them and what we can do. Sponsored by Hardy Plant Club of Northern VT.
