The Market is located at Sweet Roots Farm, a berry and Organic vegetable farm in Charlotte, VT.
We are searching for a full-time, seasonal Market Manager to assist in daily operations of the Market.
Management Responsibilities
Collaborate with Farm owners
Manage the store: both front of house (retail sales, pick-your-own berry sales) and behind the scenes
Develop and maintain relationships with vendors such as local farmers, producers, artisans as well as regional distributors
Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, developing and managing staff
Create employee schedules, assign responsibilities, confirm responsibilities/assignments are carried through in Market
Train new employees and provide ongoing education especially regarding Farm grown products
Evaluate staff based on performance and customer feedback
Assist in record keeping to uphold permits, comply with regulations and Organic certification
Navigate human resources issues with support from Farm Owners
Collaborate with Field employees especially Harvest Manager
Marketing via social media, signage, and event planning
Assist in the implementation of all systems
Retail Responsibilities
Complete customer transactions quickly and efficiently using a POS system
Display market goods including a wide array of fresh produce, in an attractive and creative manner
Maintain optimal freshness of Farm grown produce
Receive deliveries of inventory - price, merchandise and restock
Order from specific distributors on a regular basis
Research new products, makers, farmers, etc., to keep our Market filled with the best local products
Open and close register independently
Maintain a clean and welcoming interior and exterior of the market
Strive to build knowledge of products in each department of the store
Assist in the implementation of all systems
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience in food/grocery related retail and customer service
Minimum of 2 years of experience managing staff
Farm experience a plus but not required
Experience & knowledge handling produce, foods, plants and beverages
Knowledge and experience with local food system, agriculture and food seasonality
Ability to self-manage as well as manage others on a daily basis
Desire to interact with the public and create relationships
Ability to manage time efficiently
Positive attitude, excellent communication skills
Ability to be flexible and adaptable to quickly evolving systems
Attention and passion for details and aesthetic
Ability to move quickly during peak hours
Required to work one weekend day

$17-20 based on experience. Employee discount, farm produce, market seconds and farm merch.
