Fruit Tree Pruning & Grafting Fundamentals
Saturday, April 13, 2019 (All day)
Fruit Tree Pruning : 10-1+ This is a scientific approach, but certainly open to all levels. Expect an indoor lecture, some pictures, discussion and Q&A followed by practical experience in the orchard. Everything from tree physiology to tool choice will be covered. We will also go over bush fruits and vines as determined by interest. The workshop normally goes a good 3 hours, usually longer. Refreshments for this morning session are included.
Fruit Tree Grafting : 2-5+ Learn how to graft fruit trees using a variety of methods. We will review bench grafting, topworking, budding, and cover a range of species. Participants will be provided with all plant material to make 2 new apple trees from a wide selection of varieties. We begin with a lecture and discussion on the science of grafting, followed by technique instruction. Later, there is practice and then down to the actual surgery, with help from the teacher. Expect 3 hours, often longer. The farmstand always has tools, books and other materials if you need them. You will be emailed a list of things to bring and directions to the farm.
