Farm Walk Fledging Crow Vegetables

Sunday, August 13, 2017 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm

Ian Ater and Lucas Christenson established Fledging Crow Vegetables in 2008. Their first CSA shares were sold in winter of 2009 to 30 members. Today, they sell their produce through a 350 member CSA, 40 wholesale accounts, and 6 local farmer’s markets.

As of Fall 2016, the farm has grown to 35 acres of certified organic vegetables with a crew of 16 people. The farm prides itself on creating a fun and nourishing work environment where people from all walks of life can share in the satisfaction of a hard days work punctuated by delicious communal meals. A current top priority is finding ways to serve lower income families in the Champlain Valley, and navigating the legality of providing a great workplace/day camp for area youth.

During the walk we’ll tour the fields, greenhouses, out-buildings and coolers, and hear from the owners about their current vision and challenges as they near year 10 of production.

This event is free for farmers in the Adks. If you are not a farmer or are from out of the area please consider making a $25 donation to Essex Farm Institute.
