Advanced Beekeeping Class
Sunday, June 2, 2019 (All day)
This full day class builds on the Organic Beekeeping for Beginner class and covers working with Queens, nucleus colonies and swarms. We will also follow the products from the hive (pollen, propolis, honey, wax, royal jelly and bee venom) from production through harvesting, processing and final uses especially as they apply to health and healing (apitherapy). There will be an opportunity for a hand’s-on nuc making session in a nearby bee yard weather permitting. Due to the logistics of making nucleus colonies, the class size is limited to 10 participants on a first come, first serve basis.
Instructor: Ross Conrad
Conrad learned his craft from the late Charles Mraz, world renowned beekeeper and promoter of apitherapy. Conrad is a former president of the Vermont Beekeeper's Association, a regular contributor to Bee Culture - The Magazine of American Beekeeping, a member of the Vermont Pollinator Protection Committee and author of Natural Beekeeping: Organic Approaches To Modern Apiculture published by Chelsea Green. Ross has given bee related presentations and led organic beekeeping workshops and classes throughout North America for many years. His beekeeping business, Dancing Bee Gardens, supplies friends, neighbors with honey and candles among other bee related products, has 5-frame nucleus bee colonies available each June, and provides bees for Vermont apple pollination in spring.
