Overview:
Karme Choling’s organic garden grows on one acre of rich, enthusiastic soil that hugs a gentle bend on the Stevens River. It feeds a community of Buddhist practitioners whose collective practice it is to create a kind society.
The garden has been managed organically for 35 years, with a particular focus on biodiversity and enriching the soil. It produces a wide variety of vegetables, flowers, herbs, shiitake mushrooms, and berries. Most of the produce is used at the center, but some is sold through a CSA, a local meal site and food coop.
The meditation center was founded in 1970 by Tibetan Buddhist master Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, sits on 420 acres of of forest and meadowlands that are rich with wildlife. Throughout the year Karme Choling hosts dharma programs in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition and encourages daily meditation for its staff.
