National Farmers' Market Week Film Challenge!

National Farmers’ Market week is right around the corner, taking place this year August 4th-10th. NOFA-VT, in collaboration with the Vermont Farmers’ Market Association (VTFMA), is busy planning for this important week.  During this week, we focus attention on the important role that farmers’ markets play in strengthening communities, supporting local farmers and economies, and increasing access to healthy, local food throughout the state. As part of the festivities of this week, we are excited to announce our 5th annual National Farmers Market Week Film Challenge. Last year, the theme for this challenge was to create a video that displayed appreciation for markets throughout the state of Vermont. The 2012 first place winner was the Waitsfield Farmers’ Market video by Rob Williams entitled, “In One Word and One Minute, Why We Love the Waitsfield Farmers’ Market.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOo-vpEqNzE This year, we are encouraging farmers’ markets and individuals to create short videos that display their love and appreciation for the farmers and vendors that make farmers’ markets throughout the state so great! We are looking for creative submissions under 10 minutes in length, that encourage and compel viewers to support the hardworking farmers and vendors that are involved in markets throughout Vermont. Participation is open to all ages and should feature at least one Vermont farmers’ market. Submission rules can be found at nofavt.org/nfmw. Last year we had a great turnout, and are hoping for an even bigger one in 2013! The winning video will receive a $100 shopping spree to the winners market of choice, with additional prizes awarded for the 2nd and 3rd place videos. Videos must be uploaded no later than 5 pm on August 1st in order to be judged in the competition. Please help to spread the word of this challenge by participating yourself, and by telling your family, friends, neighbors, and community members about this great promotion of National Farmers’ Market week- we look forward to seeing your videos!
