Farmer Correspondence Program

Farmer Correspondence One of the most beloved Farm to Community Mentor projects is our Farmer Correspondence Program which links farmers throughout Vermont with K-8 classrooms in their regions.

Farmers write letters to their pen pal classrooms during the winter and spring describing their daily and seasonal activities around the farm—fall harvests, winter chores, spring lambing, concerns and excitements, routines and surprises.  Classrooms read and discuss the letters, and respond with group or individual letters.

Farm field trips for schools — At this time we encourage schools and farmers to make their own connections for the program (but we are here to help you!). Please see our flyer and teacher information packet for details. As always, there are a limited number of mini-grants available for schools that need financial support to make the field trips happen.

If you'd like to participate or apply for a mini-grant, contact Scout Proft (Southern Vermont) or Misse Axelrod (Northern Vermont).
