Plant-Based Color Wheel: Grow a Dye Garden Workshop

Saturday, September 4, 2021 - 10:00am to 12:00pm

Experience the colors of the rainbow in this hands-on introduction to the world of plant-based natural dyes. From golden yellow to robin’s egg blue, we will share our adventures in growing and processing a handful of dye plants.  Our focus will be on beginner-friendly dye plants and techniques for you to learn the basics on mordants, after baths, and over dyeing on natural fibers.

Instructors: Carolina Lukac & Jackie Reno

What to bring
We will provide all participants with fabric scraps to use during the dye demos.  We encourage participants to bring a notebook and pen to take notes and complement the workshop handout.

Location
Picnic shelter at the Tommy Thompson Community Garden, at the Intervale.
Drive down Intervale Road, past Gardener’s Supply and onto the dirt road. Continue past the Intervale Community Farm on your left, greenhouses at #282 on your right, and eventually reach the “Trail and Garden” parking area on your right.  From there, look for the picnic shelter across the road or simply follow the signs to the dye workshop!
