Farming Beyond Borders

NOFA-VT has extended our farmer to farmer mentoring program to develop a Farming Beyond Borders Program.

The Farming Beyond Borders Program creates and supports exchanges between Vermont organic farmers and farmers beyond Vermont’s borders in order to increase production, improve environmental sustainability and strengthen financial viability via mutually beneficial relationships and cross-cultural exchange.

Our first project in this program is a parternship with Winrock International to send several organic farmers to El Salvador in early 2013. Click here to read our press release and learn more!

The Farming Beyond Borders program was initiated by Mimi Arnstein, NOFA-VT board member and farmer at Wellspring Farm in Marshfield. Mimi was inspired by her travel to Cuba as part of an international farming conference. Other Vermont farmers voiced their support for the creation of this program, which will allow Vermont farmers to share their knowledge and learn from the experiences and traditions of farmers across the United States and beyond.
