Three Vermont certified organic farms have recently suffered tragic losses.
In April, Paul Betz and Kate Camiletti of High Ledge Farm in E Calais lost their vehicles, farm equipment, greenhouses, and farmhouse due to a leaky propane tank which exploded.
Also in April, Brian and Nancy LaCoss of Wonder Y Farm in Lyndonville lost their home and belongings due to fire.
In May, an unexpected tornado destroyed the covered barnyard of Russell, Lois, and Jason Deberville of the Deberville Farm in Washington, Vermont.
The Farmer Emergency Fund was established in 1997 to assist organic farmers adversely affected by natural and unatural disasters. Donations received from May 11 to June 22, 3009, up to a maximum of $5,000 will be matched.
