August 1st – August 7th 2010 is the 11th annual National Farmers’ Market Week. During National Farmers’ Market Week, we invite you to join us in celebrating the healthy food, economic value, and community importance of Vermont’s markets.

NOFA Vermont is celebrating with two events - the Farmers' Market Film Challenge and the Pizza to the People Tour. There are also other events going on throughout the state!
Buy It, Cook It, Film It: the Farmers' Market Film Challenge
It's time....for the 2nd annual Farmers' Market Film Challenge! During the 2010 National Farmers' Market Week (August 1 - 7) we invite you to show us why you love your local farmers market.
Videos uploaded to YouTube by 5pm on August 20th will be entered into the competition. Judges will award videos that creatively encourage viewers to visit their local farmers' markets.
The following prizes will be awarded:
- 1 Grand Prize: FREE registration to one NOFA-VT conference (either Winter Conference or Direct Marketing Conference) + a NOFA-VT organic t-shirt.
- 3 Runners-up: NOFA-VT organic t-shirt
- All entries will be featured on the NOFA-VT YouTube Channel and will be acknowledged for their creativity and support of farmers’ markets!

Pizza to the People
We are sending NOFA Vermont’s mobile pizza oven all over the state for Pizza to the People: The Farmers’ Market Tour. Join us as we celebrate local farms, healthy food, and strong communities with fresh, delicious pizza!

Canaan Farmers’ Market will have a display of books which will range from cooking and eating fresh vegetable to canning, freezing, storing for winter enjoyment. They will also be promoting the Menu for the Future program which will start in August at the Canaan Town Library. Windsor Farmers’ Market is hosting a raffle during their market. The drawing will occur during their market on August 8th.

Middlebury Farmer's Market: From 10 am to noon, Ripton author Andrea Chesman will give a live cooking demonstration from her latest book, "Recipes from the Root Cellar." The well-known food writer is the author of "The Vegetarian Grill," "Serving Up the Harvest," "The Classic Zucchini Cookbook," and other books. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Vegetarian Times, Organic Gardening, and Cooking Light. Please join Andrea for this free, fun and flavorful cooking demo at the open-air Middlebury Farmer's Market by the Falls at the Marble Works.

Mills Riverside Farmers' Market, off of Rt 15 in Jericho,will be hosting a Kids Market day. Children are welcome to come and vend their crafts, baked goods, art projects, etc, along with our seasonal vendors. Prospective vendors need to bring any supplies they might need (tables, tents, etc).

Bellows Falls Farmers’ Market is promoting the use of their EBT access with Harvest Health Coupons. For every $10 dollars you spend at Market with your EBT/3SuaresVT card they will match it, dollar for dollar with Harvest Health Coupons. The coupons must be spent at the Market at which you received them and are limited in supply. Visit the Managers’ Booth with questions or to receive your coupons. There will be also be music performed by Julie Waters.

Norwich Farmers’ Market will be hosting a Thai cooking demonstration with Jeem Peterson using local produce obtained at the market.
Mount Tom Farmers’ Market vendors will have free taste samples of all food and vegetable items. Some vendors are planning a 2 for the price of 1 sale. They will be raffling off a special artists creation, raffle tickets to be purchased at the event and the drawing will occur at 1 pm.
Springfield Farmers’ Market will be hosting a cooking demonstration using local ingredients to prepare easy and wonderful dishes.
