Urban Hen House Hop – Keeping Chickens in Small Places

August 20, 2011 - 9:00am - 12:00pm

This workshop will offer opportunities to see different chicken coops, and an introduction to keeping chickens in small backyards. We'll discuss the following topics: legalities & neighbor relations, obtaining chickens, including challenges to raising chicks in small spaces, chicken health & happiness through the seasons, effectively incorporating chickens into backyard gardens, and livestock or pets: your relationship to your chickens. The workshop will be at the homes of three urban chicken owners in the South End of Burlington, showcasing different sizes of flocks (2-9) and types of coops (free-standing, incorporated into a garden shed). Be prepared to walk. Bring a bagged lunch if you would like to stay afterward and chat more.

Rain date: Sunday, August 21
