Meet the farmer
Annie and Andrew Paradee are a husband-and-wife team who own and operate this diversified farm in Stowe’s Nebraska Valley. They purchased the 49 acres that is now Long Winter Farm in 2016 from Christine Kaiser after a collaboration between the Stowe Land Trust and the Vermont Land Trust resulted in the conservation of Christine’s farm, which she subsequently sold to us. The Stowe Land Trust mobilized the community to save this farm – one of the last working farms in Stowe.
The Paradees are true Vermonters with deep ties to the Stowe area. Annie grew up in Waterbury Center and Andrew grew up on a dairy farm in Sheldon. They met ski instructing at Stowe in 2008. After getting married in 2010, they served as forestry and agriculture volunteers for the United States Peace Corps in rural northwestern Zambia from 2012-2014. Upon returning to Stowe after their service, they rented an apartment in Nebraska Valley in order to be close to the mountain while searching for farmland throughout central Vermont. They quickly fell in love with the community and leapt on the opportunity when Christine decided to sell her farm up the road from where they were living.
Annie and Andrew deeply love and appreciate the land, plants and animals and strive for optimal health in all aspects of our farming venture. Healthy soils produce healthy plants and animals, making healthy food for healthy Vermonters!
