From Forest to Farm to Feast: The Delicious Reclamation of a Farm with Animals (NOFA-VT Summer Workshop Series Event)

October 24, 2010 - 11:00am - 3:00pm

Pre-registration requested

Jenn Colby and Chris Sargent are the two halves of Howling Wolf Farm and Howling Hog Barbecue, blending their love of raising animals and cooking meat into a diversified farm, competition barbecue team, and small but growing business. Our visit will include a farm tour with an emphasis on using pigs, poultry, and sheep to reclaim overgrown pasture and forest land, rotational grazing on limited acreage, and farming year round without a dedicated barn structure. The cooking side will outline some of the differences cooking grain fed and grass-fed meats, how to break down a rack of ribs for a long slow smoke, and the use of high heat for grilling - then we will sample some barbecued treats!
